John Peel and Sheila
The Pig's Big 78's - A Beginner's Guide

TRIKONT US-0350
CD in special-Digipak with 2 Booklets
(english & german, with many unreleased photos)

compiled by: John Peel u. Sheila Ravenscroft,
supported by Christoph Wagner

A wild selection of 78rpm records from John Peel's collection. Extraordinary vintage music, chosen for Trikont by The legendary DJ and his wife Sheila - their favourites from his late night Radio 1 show.

23 weird and wonderful tracks ranging from English brass bands, schmaltzy dance music and yodeling, to early rock 'n roll and traditional music from China and Africa. From comic football sketches to bizarre sound imitations. It's a typical Peel-Mix, making us all too aware of the gap he left behind

Includes an extensive interview with Sheila explaining why she and John chose these particular tracks. Her surprising stories and anecdotes, alongside personal photographs, reveal unknown aspects of their life together and put this idiosyncratic collection of records into context.

"John Peel was the only important DJ left in the world."
Jack White, The White Stripes

"Whenever I was losing inspiration, I would listen to his show and was straight away on track. He`d play one thing every Show which would change how you thought about a style of music."
Thom Yorke, Radiohead

"John Peel qualifies as probably the most important single figure in the British music industry for the last 48 years."
Brian Eno

"He was the contradiction of every bad thing you could say about the radio. He had an open mind about all types of music. He was as rare as the music that he loved."
Elvis Costello
